Tychicus
Project
What
is a Tychicus? (Tik-ik-us)
The question
is not "What is a Tychicus?" but who was Tychicus?
Tychicus served the Apostle Paul by delivering his letters
and bringing encouragement to the churches that were far
away. His courier ministry was a quiet, low profile, and
unassuming but very important one. It was through his
travels that we now have the letters to the Ephesians,
Colossians, and Titus. Through the letters that Tychicus
delivered, the people in these places received ministry.
You too can
minister like Tychicus, by being involved in this project
of bringing hope, healing and honor to Native North Americans
by sponsoring our newspaper into correctional institutions
where many are resident.
How
does it work?
Indian Life
Ministries mails Indian Life newspaper to 1513 institutions
free of charge. For many years ILM sent ten copies of
each issue to these places. More recently, because of
financial constraints, we have had to reduce the number
of copies from ten to one. Nevertheless, we have always
had a desure to restore our witness in these places. We
knew that we could not afford to finance this endeavor
ourselves; we had to trust in the generosity of God's
people. As a result, the Project Tychicus program
was born.
Project
Tychicus works very simply; an individual, family,
or church group sponsors ten copies of Indian Life newspaper
to a local prison in your area for one year. We assign
your sponsored subscription according to your zip/postal
code when possible. You can also send us the name and
address of the institution of your choice. As a result
of this, sponsors can have an important role in ministering
to a nearby correctional institution.
Couldn't
the Chaplain pay for the newspapers?
Most Chaplains
have very limited budgets an dmany have no budgets at
all.
Who
is the target audience?
Our primary
audience for Project Tychicus is the
Native prisoner who is searching for the truth. Such individuals
can be found in most prisons in North America. In fact
some prisons have as high as an 80% Native population.
Within the prison system our newspapers and books circulate
very widely among the inmates. As a result many have put
their faith in Christ who is "the Way, the Truth
and the Life." We process around 2,500 letters a
year from the men and women who write us asking for help.
How
many institutions is Project Tychicus trying
to reach?
ILM is currently
mailing one copy of Indian Life newspaper to each of the
4,938 institutions in North America. Of these 1,513 are
prisons. In addition to reaching these institutions ILM
mails out 10,000 newspapers per issue to individuals,
churches, and missionaries. That totals about 15,000 per
issue. Should the first phase of Project Tychicus
to prisons only be successful, this number will increase
to 30,000. Completion of the second phase will increase
total distribution to 65,000.
How
much does it cost?
A subscription
of ten newspapers to a prison for one year is $43.75,
for two prisons $87.50, for three prisons $131.25.
Can
I get a tax receipt if I make a donations to your ministry?
Indian Life
Ministries is a registered non-profit organization
(charity) in both the United States and Canada. For this
reason your gift is tax deductible. ILM is a member in
good standing with the Canadian Council of Christian Charities.
Audited financial statements are available upon request.
What
do you do when the subscription expires?
After six issues
of the newspaper have been mailed to the prison (about
one year) ILM will send a letter to you asking for you
to consider renewing your sponsorship for another year.
